Metabolomics - Profiling of Human Embryos

Speaker:  Richard T. Scott, MD

NEEDS ASSESSMENT

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Knowing the reproductive potential of individual human embryos would allow more specific transfer strategies and would likely raise pregnancy rates and lower multiple pregnancy rates (by reducing the number of embryos transferred).

Metabolomics as applied to human embryology involves evaluation of one or more components involved in the embryos metabolic processes.  The goal of metabolomics is to accurately assess the reproductive competence of individual embryos. In the future, it may also be utilized simultaneously to provide quality assurance data about various procedures or components utilized within the IVF laboratory.  The literature surrounding metabolomic screening strategies and the published literature to date will be reviewed and interpreted
