| NEEDS ASSESSMENT/LECTURE |
The inability to assess the reproductive competence of individual embryos is among the greatest challenges facing reproductive medicine today. If an implantation potential could be accurately assigned to each embryo prior to transfer, embryologists and clinicians could make much better decisions regarding which embryos to transfer and even the number to be transferred. More precise selection might mean higher pregnancy rates with lower multiple gestation rates.
New technologies which focus on in depth analysis of the embryo are being studied. This includes new technologies for PGD, other types of genotyping, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. This lecture will review some of the technologies currently being evaluated and interpret the data available to date.
