TESE techniques and Cryopreservation

NEEDS ASSESSMENT/DESCRIPTION

     TESE is a common technique used to harvest sperm for IVF with ICSI.  There are variations on the techniques available and most recently the operating microscope has been used to make the success rates higher.

      Freezing of the sperm and the testicular tissue has improved as has the medium and techniques of cryopreservation, which will be discussed.

      This lecture will cover the current status of TESE procedures and the history and evolution of cryopreservation of testicular tissue and sperm.

 
LECTURE OBJECTIVES

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the different TESE techniques.
  • Have a basic understanding of testicular histology as it relates to IVF/ICSI.
  • Know what the common freezing techniques are.
