TESE in 2008: Timing, Techniques and Freezing

Course Chair:  Scott Zeitlin, MD

NEEDS ASSESSMENT

Everyone has a preference when it comes to TESE.  This includes the urologist, reproductive endocrin- ologist, andrologist and the embryologist.  The method of extraction is variable as is the timing of the retrieval, the intensity of the search, and the sperm handling techniques.

Everyone needs to come together to talk about getting us all on the same page.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This course is designed to provide the participant with the information to:

1) Identify the methods of retrieval used

2) Be aware of the timing involved and its relation to the egg retrieval

3) Debunk the myths of sperm viability and handling

4) Learn all the newest sperm freezing and handling techniques

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The TESE workshop will bring together the urologist, reproductive endocrinologist, andrologist, and embryologist to create a meeting of the minds.

The lack of uniformity regarding timing, sperm micromanipulation and cryopreservation of testicular specimens is frustrating to all parties involoved.

The course will consist of a review of the TESE and MicroTESE procedures and compare the data and pitfalls of the techniques as well as the limitations.

We will discuss the timing of the retrieval and its importance, the storage and manipulation of the specimens and finally the cryopreservation aspects.

We will provide personal perspectives and teach the tricks of the trade.

Bring your sense of humor!
