TESE Timing, Perils and Pitfalls

Scott Zeitlin , MD

NEEDS ASSESSMENT/DESCRIPTION

As a surgical procedure the TESE procedure is performed by a urologist over and over in typically the same fashion.

Getting everyone starting with the patient, followed by the RE, and the lab on board isn't always as easy.

Managing expectations is critical to success and perceived success.

The retrieval of sperm does not need to occur on the same day as the egg retrieval.  Not all attempts at TESE are successful.

Everyone needs to know where the patients are with regard to donor backup.

LECTURE OBJECTIVES

1, Determine when the TESE can occur.

2. Manage the expectations of the patients and their colleagues.
