NEEDS ASSESSMENT / LECTURE DESCRIPTION |
A recent survey of nearly 100 gynecologists in the metropolitan Detroit area revealed that there is a lack on uniformity and consensus regarding the initial workup of the infertile woman. This lack of uniformity appears in some cases to be a source of delayed, inappropriate or cost effective care.
A lack of consensus regarding the initial evaluation of the infertile woman can led to a delay in appropriate and cost effective care. This lack of consensus and uniformity of care is related to several factors including: the historic development of infertility care, a paucity of well-designed studies evaluating the value of each diagnostic test, misinformation, incomplete insurance coverage and personal preferences. This lecture will examine these factors and discuss how the workup on the infertile woman may change in the future.
