Becoming participants in the scientific publishing enterprise is an important goal for REI fellows. This lecture will introduce and guide fellows through the publication process. Recommendations and suggestions will be provided to facilitate the development of skill sets needed to be effective authors and reviewers. Exactly what goes on in journal editorial offices as a manuscript proceeds through the publication process will be described with fellows having a firsthand opportunity to play the role of journal editor themselves.
